La ventanilla

We must consider that both mangroves and forests are the most complex and productive ecosystems on the planet. Here different species of reptiles and birds nest and live, such as the woodpecker, kingfisher, duck, and an immense variety of herons, crocodiles and iguanas, many of them in danger of extinction. In addition to being large primary producers of energy and oxygen, mangroves contribute to global ecology by avoiding erosion on the coastline, thus facilitating soil formation and vegetation establishment; In addition, it helps to regulate the fluctuations of temperature and humidity, providing habitat to a great variety of terrestrial and aquatic life.

In these lagoons, where mangroves grow, there is an immense variety of crustaceans and microorganisms that serve as food for turtles, dolphins and fish when the rods are broken, that is, when the sea meets the lagoon, a phenomenon that Occurs in rainy season.

To the beach come three species of turtles to spawn

1.- Dolphin turtle (Lepidoschelys olivácea)

2.- Brown turtle (Chelonya midas)

3.- Laud turtle (Dermochelys coriácea)

As part of the strategies for the conservation of the environment, actions are taken to protect and care for turtles, caimans and deer, so there is a turtle egg incubator, as well as protection and conservation areas. In addition, reforestation of the mangrove area is carried out, for which there is a small nursery.

The cooperative is concerned about the environment, registered in 2002 an Environmental Management Unit (UMA) and in 2004 obtained the first place in the national level of Successful Experiences in the Conservation of Natural Resources in Indigenous Communities granted by SEMARNAT, also Honorable mention of the CONANP in conservation of Natural Resources.

Currently the Cooperative has been a member since 2004 of the Wetlands Network of the coast of Oaxaca and a development model for its more than 20 affiliated organizations. The Ventanilla has offered its experience and knowledge to cooperatives of the coast of Oaxaca and other states of the country.
