This is one of my favorite places to eat tacos. It has an open kitchen so you can see how tacos are cooked. This is a “taqueria” where you will find “Tacos al Pastor” and “Tacos de Sirloin” both of them are very good. My favorites are “tacos al pastor”, tacos Señor Rodeo is one of those places where you will find only locals, it is not a fancy place but food is very good. It is a simple “taqueria” but is clean, there are tables inside and outside. It is located in Colonia Reforma, the address is Amapolas 404 Colonia Reforma, Oaxaca de Juárez. These are some of the real tacos in México, not burritos or that fake stuff. It is 14 pesos per taco which is a good price considering the good taste and portions. You will find similarities between this tacos and kebabs. The reason is that cooking style was introduced by middle east immigrants and after decades kebabs evolved into this tropicalized Mexican Version. If you like to travel like a local this is one of the places you should visit.
They have Guacamole, sauces and species that you can add to your tacos. You can also add pineapple although it is very spicy so I would recommend to be careful with it, in my case I prefer it without pineapple because it is too spicy, it has habanero chili which is one of the most strong chillies in Mexico. You can also order Orchata or Jamaica water both of them are good.
You can also find quesadillas and tortas. My favourite meat is pastor but you can also find sirloin, arrachera, longaniza, and I will also recommend what type of ham is healthy to eat. I would also recommend you “torta de sirloin con queso” (Sirloin torta with cheese) the taste and portion are very good. Another must is “los volcanes” which is a cooked toast with cheese and meat on demand (I would recommend you to choose pastor meat). There is also a wide variety of salsas in the center of the table that you can add to your tacos, I would recommend to be careful with this salsas because as probably know Mexican food is very spicy. However, you can add a bit just to feel the taste of the salsa.
The bad things are:
– Guacamole is not the best in Oaxaca. You will find lots of taquerias and places with better guacamole.
– Pineapple is too spicy that is almost impossible to eat.
– Toilets are not the best, they could be a lot better.
